Weather Merit Badge Update

Congratulations to David Paciorkowski and Matt Phizacklea for completing the

Weather Merit Badge.

On Thursday, January, 16, ten Scouts and four adults toured the Weather

Office at MCAF Quantico.  GYSGT Hubler and his duty section gave the tour and

explained the functions of the weather office and to whom they provide

weather information.  The office provides the weather briefings to the pilots

of HMX-1, who are most known for flying the President to and from the White

House.  In addition they provide the weather forecasts to the various

commands at Quantico.  Gunny Hubler said that the primary harmful weather for

Quantico is thunderstorms.  The only bad part was that the Marine forecasters

(and the merit badge counselor) blew the forecast for how much snow Prince

William County was to get the next day.

The formal Weather merit badge classes are finished.  Scouts who still have

presentations and handouts to turn in will need to contact Mr. Markley at the

scout meetings.  Scouts who did not go on the Quantico Weather Office tour

will need to construct a weather instrument and keep a forecast log.  Scouts

who have the Weather merit badge partially completed should contact Mr.

Markley to make arrangements to finish up the merit badge.
